    I find some things that help me are first not picking out pages in advance. I'm more interested if it's not an obligation, like I "need" to color these books. I choose my coloring completely on the spur of the moment, and I finish what I started while I'm still interested. WIPS don't work for me. I buy a lot of smaller format books and more simple books so I can color without a lot of work sometimes. I love my detailed stuff but I do more of it if I do a small or simple page in between. I'm not remotely interested in how many pages I complete in a month, I just take each one as it's own experience. Also I keep my materials separated so I'm not seeing all my things all the time.. I find it more fun to color with a "new" set of pencils if I haven't used them in a while, and I get bored with even my favorite things if I use them too often. I even have a couple of small sets for the challenge of using a limited number of colors. I color in different styles and techniques.. I have different ways of basing, different types of pencils, different types of paint. I have more than a few ways to color quickly.. prismas blend out over paper so you can lay down the dark color and spread it with the prisma blender.. it looks like you used a bunch of colors but you didn't. Super fast and kind of magical. I've been using watercolor/Inktense pencils with alcohol blender a LOT lately, also super fast and a completely different look. I can use alcohol markers alone or to base and pencils on top.. or watercolor/Inktense pencil licked off the tip with a water brush.. or pull out my Tombows (any watercolor marker) and use them off a palette like paint.. or grab my Lyras or Procolour and do a bunch of elaborate layering. I recently bought some Crayola crayons to play with. Keep it fresh and new. I recently found out that gel pens are watersoluble...haven't tried that yet but I've seen it in action. The Sakura Moonlights worked exceptionally well. I also recently saw someone "coloring" with a ball point pen using hatching, cross hatching, and dots. Sometimes I'm just not up to it and that's ok too, if you get down on yourself it just makes it harder to get back to coloring. Be kind to yourself, give yourself permission to take a break. Sometimes I just play with my stuff.. experiment, re-swatch and re-sort a set, test new color combinations or techniques, test media in the back of a book and make notes so you can see at a glance what works and what doesn't the next time you want to color in it, etc. Pull out watercolors or waterbased pens and play with mixing colors, or try to match a specific color by mixing. Look through my books at pages I've done and pages still left to do. I still count that as "coloring". I learn more doing stuff like that than actually coloring a page. I often listen to an audiobook while coloring, some people can't do this (just depends on your brain) but I color/paint best while the other side of my mind is busy too. Hours fly by...so much so I have to be careful during the week, I come up out of my coloring zone to realize I should have been in bed an hour ago.

    K, don't allow YT spoil the pleasure of your colouring. You are one of the best out there and you have your own style, we love you no matter what, don't do things for us, do them for yourself. If one month you don't film the finished pages it's not the end of the world. You can replace it with a video "my finished pages in X book" and we would be delighted. I hope you get out of your colouring slump soon and if you don't, no worries. I loved your video, I'm working on a Mythographic page in Magical Earth and I coloured along with you. Enjoy your colouring! ❤❤❤

    Hi K! I am a lot older than you ( my picture is from years ago😂😂) but womans have moodswings because of hormones and other stuff, be nice to yourself. And you said it yourself: go with the flow and do what you like at that moment. It gets worse if you force yourself and also your coloring can be also affected, which in turn does not make you happy…Lovely K, we do love you all, but not own you. To me your work is fabulous and amazing and you give a lot of nice ideas to work with. Don’t give yourself a burnout K! Try to enjoy the process of just one page and keep smiling!!!! I've been feeling pressure to colour "perfectly" and have watched so many videos that inspire me. Then I look through some books and just can't seem to find anything I'm confident enough to colour. I have to keep reminding myself that noone will even see it if I mess it up so badly I wouldn't post it but yeah I can only Imagine how it would feel for you because it's all on camera. In saying that though I don't think I've ever seen a picture you've done that I've thought isn't beautiful. Get what you're saying though and hope you get your "mojo" back because I can tell how much you love this amazing hobby. I've been overwhelmed everytime I open it. Your slump could also due to the fact that you're starting back at school soon, I always get melancholy when a holiday draws to an close. I've found that colouring isn't so much a holiday activity as it's a day to day escape when we're thrust back into real life. ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

I dont want buy before I like hear for you this recommend and what brand you recommend because you are my big idol.

    • @waymire01

      Not K but I can help. It kind of depends on what part of the world you are in, buying local is easier and less expensive. Some suggestions are White Nights, Rosa, Roman Szmal.. those all European origin and come in big pans. If you are shopping on Amazon or in Asia look for Paul Rubens or Meiliang (the Paul Rubens student line). All of these are good quality at a lower price point. I've heard good things about Camel (sometimes called Camlin) watercolors for India/middle eastern areas. Van Gogh is good student quality paint and comes in pans and tubes, all of them are lightfast, but they tend to be a bit more on the opaque side. If you want professional artist watercolors all the big brands are pretty good honestly, each has it's strengths and weaknesses. My personal favorite is Windsor Newton, it's not as bright and vibrant as some but I love the soft traditional transparent colors and the way it mixes and blends. Sennelier is another very transparent soft line that is a favorite of botanical artists. Schminke is known for their granulation and huge color line. Daniel Smith is lots of granulation and very vibrant colors.

    Hi K!! oh man...yes!!! I just got thru a horrible slump! I was ripping pages out cause I hated them!! I kept trying. I watched a ton of videos and started a color along with Karen from My Colorful Country....and I was not liking my page at all. Well something shifted and I went on a journey of using her techniques but picking my own colors. It snapped me right out of the mood. We are all different with our style and how long or how we color...even what we like to use. Sometimes I try 10 different mediums!!! We need to do what brings us back to the joy!! I love watching and listening and learning from you "you tubers" I am so grateful for thr time and effort that goes into it. We are all so critical of ourselves we miss the point. Sometimes I have a spare paper and write out what is going on in my head about my project and myself...then ask myself if I would say these things to a friend or my sons or anyone?? Nope...it would be so unkind. You are amazing K!! Keep doing you!!!!❤

I think I buy so much stuff that I feel like I'm overwhelmed when I try to select a new page to color. I also have soooo many supplies and that gets a bit overwhelming when I'm trying to decide. Whenever I get a break at work and I see you have a new video posted, I get so excited. I'll watch it on a break and it calms me. Honestly we all feel like this, its not just you, I am so slow at colouring, even on a good month, I'm rarely getting more than 6/7 complete, but I try not to worry or put pressure on myself about it. In my head, I do tell myself "just stay in my own lane" I really do try and just do what pleases myself, ( I know that sounds selfish) But this isn't my job, I'm not getting paid, it has to be good for me, and if someone else is doing it bigger or better, well great, but I'm just me and I'm not going to force myself to do stuff that I'm not wanting to do. ( easy said I know) As you've said, its a hobby, its for fun, relaxation, and I do like the mental challenge of trying to do something as I imagine it to be. but I have had some down months this year, and I think that's totally normal as well. We have stressful busy jobs, and the truth is sometimes you just need to do nothing for a bit to recover. I dont like not filming finished pages, because it is the video I enjoy the most, but If I have a month I dont film one, its really not the end of the world, you do what you need to do for yourself. ( Ive not got much done either, had quite a bit to do as well.) I generally find finding a page that you really want to work on is the best for kick starting me wanting to colour. Enjoy your time and relax, x ❤

      I just finished watching the video, K, and was going to pop down to the comments to say, " I TOTALLY get it" - but Wendy has said it so wonderfully that I'm just going to tag along on her comment. :) I've definitely been feeling the same way lately - I feel like, by being a RUclipsr, I've lost some of that spark and spontaneity when it comes to my colouring. Before I started making videos, if I wanted to do nothing for a whole month other than flip through my books and re-organize my supplies (both of which make me very happy :)) I could just do those things and not worry about pushing myself to complete pages and get videos out. With RUclips's algorithm, it feels like we get ourselves on a kind of colouring treadmill - that doesn't have an off switch or a way to pause. :) I'm going to print out Wendy's advice and hang it on the wall in front of me to remind myself to just do what makes me happy and try not to worry about my viewer count or disappointing others. Virtually all the viewers in the ColourTube community are so very supportive and I'm sure they would completely understand if you or I (or any other creator) took small breaks or just did what we wanted to instead what's fancy and perfect. :) I've been doing more "flat" colouring lately and that's made me quite happy - and it's amazing how much depth you can get out of flat colouring when you go in at the end with just a little black Prismacolor and a bit of white highlights (which I learned from the awesome Maia :)). And if there are viewers who complain that we don't post enough videos or that our colouring isn't "up to snuff", well... there are a ton of other RUclips channels those folks can frequent to find what they're looking for. :) Hugs to you, K and Wendy - stressed out teachers unite! :)

Sometimes, I do feel like that but I need to relax and realise this is not a job, it s a hobby! Like you say the colouring community here is very supportive and understanding. Thank you to you both, again xx

    You should try changing it up and color flat with no shading on pages you are not super excited about. I have been doing a 'grading' of my pencil collection lately, as I have too many and want to destash some. They are easy to compare in my Amazon books doing just a few layers with minimal shading.

A couple of pages in Small Victories, a page in Millie Marotta's Secrets of the Sea & a page in Rita's Asien which I am inserting washi tape on some of the objects. It's summer in my part of the USA & when not @ work being outdoors is a priority. The pens you are using to do the leaves are so unusual. You are by far the most interesting colorist I enjoy. You should not apply pressure to yourself. You are being too serious. Remember when we were all children, colored out of the lines, use any color we wanted. It was pure joy as it was meant to be. When school is in I typically have the weekends to get some coloring done, but sometimes I will try to squeeze in some coloring time after I'm done homeschooling my daughter for the day if I'm not too tired! I've been homeschooling my daughter for 5 or 6 years now and I never realized how big of a job it is to be a teacher until I started homeschooling her! I think teachers should get paid a lot more than what they do because it's a tough job for sure!

    We all go through slumps. Look at what’s going on in your life. Just moved, boxes to unpack, extra work signed up for and done, holiday taken, and now prepping for return to school. Whew! That’s a lot. Give yourself some grace. Your mojo will return. We love you as a colorist and a teacher. Rest and replenish. ❤

    Can you explain the difference between the distress ink and the oxide. I’ve heard that the oxide will bleed through in colouring books?

    • @ColouringwithK
      @ColouringwithK День назад

      I personally haven’t found the oxides bleeding through the paper. The oxides are a dye and pigment ink combined and the distress oxides may just be pigment based (not entirely sure), however as the oxide inks stay wetter longer, they are easier to blend on paper.

    Nice books. Obviously lovely supplies too. A small set of good watercolour pencils is a great idea to take on holiday. I have a 36 set of Koh-I-Noor Mondeluz for that. I'm trying very hard not to buy much these days, from the money point of view and because my tiny hobby and home office room is really small. And it's full. But recently I bought the King Art gel sticks because they were on a good deal for a few days on Amazon. And now I don't know how best to use them!

    • @ColouringwithK
      @ColouringwithK День назад

      Hi Sue, I use gel sticks by scribbling them on a palette and then getting a blending brush, picking it up and a-playing to the paper, seems to work well 😊
